8 SaaS changelog examples worth borrowing

Explain the outcome, show the next step and respect your reader's time. These fictional examples demonstrate reusable entry styles—not claims about real product releases.

Example 1

Feature launch

New

Share a dashboard without sharing your login

Create a read-only link for a single dashboard so clients can see progress without accessing your workspace.

  • Open Dashboard → Share → Create link.
  • Choose an expiry date before sending.
  • Revoke the link from the same menu at any time.

Available on all plans. Existing dashboards stay private until you share them.

Why it works: Lead with the customer's outcome, then show the exact path and permission boundary. Availability answers the next obvious question.

Performance improvement

Improved

Large project lists feel faster

We now load projects in smaller batches, so you can start working before the entire list arrives.

In our test workspace with 2,000 projects, the first results appeared in 0.8 seconds instead of 2.1 seconds. Your results will depend on your connection and workspace.

No action required. Filters and saved views work as before.

Why it works: Use a measured result only when you have evidence, name the test conditions and avoid turning a single benchmark into a universal promise. These numbers are illustrative, not LogPulse performance claims.

Bug fix roundup

Fixed

Three fixes for your daily workflow

  • Exports: CSV downloads now preserve accented characters in project names.
  • Invites: Resending an expired invite no longer shows a success message without sending an email.
  • Mobile: The save button stays visible when the keyboard opens in the task editor.

Already affected by an expired invite? Open Settings → Members and resend it once.

Why it works: Group small fixes by the surface users recognize. Include a recovery step when the fix does not repair past failures automatically.

Example 4

Breaking change / deprecation

Improved

API v1 retires on 30 September 2027

Requests to /api/v1/projects will stop working on 30 September 2027 at 00:00 UTC. Use /api/v2/projects before that date.

What you need to change

  1. Update the endpoint in your integration.
  2. Read results from items instead of projects.
  3. Test pagination in your staging environment.

Your API keys remain valid. Contact support before the deadline if you need help planning the migration.

Why it works: Put the deadline and affected endpoint first. Describe the concrete replacement and what stays unchanged. Replace the illustrative date and API paths before publishing.

Example 5

Weekly digest

Improved

This week: less busywork

New: Duplicate a saved view from its menu instead of rebuilding filters.

Improved: Search remembers your last selected workspace during the session.

Fixed: Archived tasks no longer appear in overdue reminders.

Try duplicating your weekly review view and adapting it for the next project.

Why it works: Keep a digest scannable with stable labels. End with one useful action rather than competing calls to action.

Example 6

Pricing change

New

A new team plan, with time to decide

On 1 October 2027, we are introducing a team plan with shared billing and workspace roles.

Existing subscriptions keep their current price until their first renewal after 1 January 2028. We will email account owners with their exact renewal date and options before any change.

Review your billing settings or contact support if you need help deciding. No action is required today.

Why it works: Separate new-plan messaging from the impact on existing customers. Verify every commitment with billing and legal teams; these dates and policies are fictional examples.

Example 7

Security update

Fixed

Security update: shared-link access checks

We corrected an access-check issue affecting shared links created by a workspace member after their role changed.

We have invalidated affected links. Workspace owners should review Settings → Shared links and create replacement links where needed.

Our security team is contacting affected workspace owners directly with verified details. Please send sensitive questions to our security contact rather than posting them publicly.

Why it works: State verified impact and immediate action without publishing exploit instructions or making unsupported claims about data exposure. Coordinate customer notices with your incident-response process.

Example 8

Beta announcement

New

Try the calendar view beta

See dated tasks on a weekly calendar and move work by dragging it to another day.

Enable it in Settings → Labs → Calendar view. The beta is optional and may change as we learn. Recurring tasks are not supported yet.

Send feedback from the Give feedback button inside the calendar. You can switch back to the list view at any time.

Why it works: Set expectations with an opt-in path, a known limitation and a clear feedback channel. Do not present a beta as a finished feature.

What makes a great changelog?

  • Lead with the user-visible benefit, not the internal ticket title.
  • Include availability, required action and an exact UI path when relevant.
  • Use one main idea per entry; group small fixes into readable lists.
  • Support metrics with evidence and context. Never invent impact or guarantees.
  • Put deadlines and migration requirements near the top of breaking changes.
  • Link release notes from inside your product and keep the public archive searchable.
